Bricolage Grotesque
A French grotesque remix with odd angles and jumping serifs
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
Bricolage Grotesque is French designer Mathieu Triay's 'remix grotesque' for Google Fonts, borrowing quirks from 1930s French and American oddball groteseques - narrow bowls and slightly skewed ovals, double-storey g, a bouncing t with a high spur, and horizontals that carry a touch of hand-set wobble. Rather than Swiss neutrality, it wears its rough edges, skews and patchwork as style on purpose, giving serious editorial character. It spans light to extra-bold as a variable face - especially strong in brand copy, magazine display, posters and hero sections. OFL, on Google Fonts, safe for commerce.
Where it works best
Made for magazine display, brand manifesto pages, posters and record sleeves, podcast identities and youthful landing-page heroes. Push weights above 700 at display sizes to unleash the quirks; pair body copy with a neutral sans such as Inter for legibility.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1: free for all commercial use, embeddable, modifiable with reserved-name rules; never sold standalone.
Hard restrictions
- Highly decorative - mind body copy.
- No standalone sale.
