About this font
Rubik began as Hubert & Fischer's commissioned face for a Rubik's cube campaign, joined Google Fonts in 2015 and has since grown to nine weights with a variable axis. Its geometry is crisp - unified circular strokes and playful rounded joins - a measured note of warmth between strict geometry and pure rounded sans. Ideal for UI headlines, branding, maps and digital products that want modern-friendliness without shouting. Wide and legible at small sizes; SIL OFL 1.1 - free commercial use, modification and redistribution with the standard no-standalone-sale rule.
Where it works best
For UI and app headlines, brand marks, infographics, maps and wayfinding, retail and e-commerce visuals, podcasts and tech products. The extra-black 900 owns big display; regular does body; the variable axis lets you fine-tune weight per context; pairs naturally with Chinese hei.

Licence and commercial boundaries

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
