Figtree
A clean, friendly geometric sans
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
Figtree is designer Erik Kennedy's geometric sans that sits between the stiffness of pure geometrics and the flatness of generic grotesques: sweeping circular skeletons softened by humanist details in a, g and e, for a look that is clean, friendly and modern without shouting. Weights run from light to extra-black with a variable axis, so web projects can tune body to billboard in one family. It is restrained enough to look right in UI, blogs, branding and decks - a hard-to-get-wrong generalist. SIL OFL 1.1, free use, embedding and modification; served straight from Google Fonts.
Where it works best
Great for English web and app UI, blog and news body, startup and tooling brands, decks and data pages. Use 400/500 for body, 700/800 headings, and the variable axis for weight transitions. Pair a stable Chinese sans for Han text and let Figtree own the Latin.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1. Free for all commercial use; embeddable, webfont-safe, modifiable and redistributable. Derivatives stay OFL without the reserved Figtree name, carry the licence text, and are never sold standalone.
Hard restrictions
- Derivatives stay OFL and drop the reserved Figtree name.
- No standalone sale.
- Latin only; Chinese requires the Han partner font.
Commercial-use FAQ
Figtree or Inter?
Inter is engineered neutral UI gas; Figtree brings friendliness and an editorial feel, so it shines in branding and content work. Choose Figtree if you want a touch of character.
