About this font
A modern grotesque from London's Colophon Foundry in collaboration with Google: DM Sans gives the classic sans skeleton a digital polish - opener apertures, cleaner details, a well-balanced geometry-vs-humanism. Not as cold as pure geometry, fresher than old grotesques. A dependable Latin base for UI, dashboards, brands and posters at every size. OFL, on Google Fonts. It ships with DM Serif and DM Mono as companions, so one family system can cover a whole hierarchy; when choosing between DM Sans and Inter, pick DM Sans for a warmer, less 'engineered' feel.
Where it works best
General brand baseline, web/app UI, marketing-page body and headlines. Body 400, emphasis 500/700; harmonious next to Chinese hei faces. Use it as the brand base face: logotypes, body, buttons and table figures stay consistent; 400 for small UI, 700 for headings.

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1: free for all commercial contexts, embeddable, modifiable and redistributable; no reserved-name reuse in derivatives, no standalone sales. Served via Google Fonts' official CDN.

DM Sans vs Inter - which one?
Both are modern UI grotesques built on similar interpolation ideas. Inter is more neutral and engineering-focused in weights and optics; DM Sans is warmer and more editorial. Choose Inter for enterprise/tooling, DM Sans for brand/content - both pair cleanly with Chinese hei.
