Fira Code
Nikita Prokopov
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
The open programming font famous for ligatures: on Fira Mono, Nikita Prokopov layered coding ligatures - arrows, comparisons, => chains - so operators typeset like prose. Six weights plus variable, Latin & Cyrillic, obsessive zero design. A perennial developer favourite for tech brands, IDE themes and code slides. Ligatures are optional, not forced: enable them in editors and terminals for arrows and equality chains, and disable them in formal typeset documents without affecting the underlying glyphs - very flexible.
Where it works best
IDE and terminal themes, blog code blocks, developer-conference collateral, code posters. 400 body with ligatures doing the talking; print code at 12 px+. For developer-facing collaterals: code blogs, tech-weekly posters, IDE themes; check ligature line-height when printing, body 400 at 12px+.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1: free for all commercial contexts, embeddable, modifiable and redistributable; no reserved-name reuse in derivatives, no standalone sales. Served via Google Fonts' official CDN.
Hard restrictions
- Derivatives drop the name.
- No standalone sales.
Commercial-use FAQ
Are Fira Code ligatures safe in formal documents?
Ligatures are purely visual - codepoints are unchanged and copy-paste returns the plain symbols. If a style guide dislikes them, disable the ligature feature in your typesetter; the OFL licence is unaffected.
