About this font

Huiwen Fangsong is the fangsong sibling of TerryWang's Huiwen family, restored from the same mid-century letterpress sources as Huiwen Mincho and released under the same near-CC0 author-declared terms. Fangsong is a Qing/Republican-era hybrid of regular script and gothic serif, graceful yet angular - the classic face of official documents and certificates. Huiwen Fangsong revives the pre-standardisation lead-type look: uneven ink, corroded edges, strokes that feel snipped off old paper. It spans 20k+ glyphs across simplified and traditional sets (GBK build aligned to mainland norms) with compatibility variants so the whole retro layout stays covered. Made for heritage branding, mock-government papers, period subtitles and old-shop signage; avoid below 16 px where the texture turns muddy. Author-declared licence: free commercial use, no credit, embed and redistribute freely, never sell the font files.

Where it works best

Retro magazines, mock official documents, old-brand signage, Republic-era posters, period-film titles, cultural packaging. Keep it above 16 px; patch missing glyphs within the Huiwen family; verify coverage via the GBK build before serious print runs.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:CC0 / public-domain-style

The author waives nearly all rights - maximum freedom; used by personal projects like Huiwen, usually keeping one baseline: the font files may not themselves be sold. Without standard legal text, the release page is the source - screenshot it.

Author-declared terms: free commercial use, embedding and redistribution allowed, no credit required; only monetising the font files is forbidden. Governed by the Zhihu article and embedded metadata - an 'author statement' licence without standardised text; screenshot for major filings.

Hard restrictions

  • Never sell the font files.
  • Patch missing glyphs within the Huiwen family.
  • Texture turns muddy under 16 px - use as a display face.
