The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.

About this font

A font that sets time in type. TerryWang scanned 1950s Wen Hui Bao documents - including the original Han Simplification Draft - and restored over twenty thousand characters across simplified and traditional sets: simplified glyphs revive the pre-standard letterpress look of mid-century books, traditional forms return to Republican-era shapes, ink sits unevenly with rusty edges as if snipped from aged newsprint. Published near-CC0: free commercial use, no credit, redistribution and embedding allowed, with one red line - no selling the font on any platform. A GBK build covers the mainland set; the Huiwen family adds fangsong and kai siblings. Not for dignified body copy - it is a memory device that teleports layouts back to the newsprint century.

Where it works best

Heritage brands, newspaper-style posters, period-film titles, nostalgia events, records and cultural goods. Rules: its mottled texture turns dirty under 16 px; align carefully against Source Han Serif - metrics differ; verify glyphs in the GBK build before publication and patch from the same family, never another font.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:CC0 / public-domain-style

The author waives nearly all rights - maximum freedom; used by personal projects like Huiwen, usually keeping one baseline: the font files may not themselves be sold. Without standard legal text, the release page is the source - screenshot it.

Author-declared terms: free commercial use everywhere, embedding and redistribution allowed, no notice or credit; the sole prohibition is monetising the font files themselves. The repo README and embedded metadata are the source - an 'author statement' licence: very generous, but without standardised legal text, so screenshot the repository page for major filings.

Hard restrictions

  • Never sell the font files.
  • Patch missing glyphs within the family.
Important disclaimer

This site is an index of publicly available information. It does not host, mirror or distribute any font file and does not warrant any licence.
