Type specimen

Lexend - easier reading

The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.

About this font

Lexend is Bonnie Shaver-Troup's project, engineered with Google Fonts' help, for legible and comfortable reading: wider apertures, relaxed tracking and lower internal stroke density make dense paragraphs easier to scan, treating the white space inside letters as a first-class design asset. It breathes. Eight static weights plus a variable axis, with a tighter-tracked Lexend Deca optional. OFL - excellent for documents, long-form reading UIs, educational material and help centres where sustained reading comfort matters.

Where it works best

Made for long-form reading apps, online readers and documents, educational slides, help centres and white papers, and children's books. 400/500 at 1.6 line-height reads best; keep bolder cuts or pair a characterful display face for headings.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1: free commercial use, embeddable, modifiable with reserved-name rules; no standalone sale.

Hard restrictions

  • No standalone sale.

Before commercial use, verify the licence on the official page and keep a dated screenshot as evidence. For trademarks, overseas publication and large-scale embedding, consult an IP professional.
