Plus Jakarta Sans
An approachable contemporary sans
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
Plus Jakarta Sans comes from Indonesian studio Tokotype - named after the city of Jakarta before becoming a favourite on Google Fonts. Stylistically it sits between humanist and geometric: balanced, open counters, a friendly upward swing that reads modern and approachable for both corporate chrome and warm consumer brands. Weights span light to black with a variable axis for subtle web transitions and display-scale headlines that don't thin out. Alongside Figtree and Manrope it's among the friendliest of the modern open sans - very much at home in consumer products. SIL OFL 1.1: free use, embedding, modification and redistribution.
Where it works best
Best for English UI and web body, consumer and lifestyle brands, landing pages and marketing collateral, and approachable corporate comms. Use 400/500 for body, 600/700 brand headlines with tight tracking, 900 for display, and the variable axis for scroll effects. A neutral Chinese sans handles the Han side.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1. Free for all commercial use; embeddable, webfont-safe, modifiable and redistributable. Derivatives stay OFL without the reserved name Plus Jakarta Sans, carry the licence text, and are never sold standalone.
Hard restrictions
- Derivatives stay OFL and drop the reserved name.
- No standalone sales.
- Latin only; pair with a Chinese font.
Commercial-use FAQ
It's from Indonesia - can Chinese sites use it?
Created by an Indonesian studio, but under OFL it's usable anywhere - as Latin text, digits and English headings on Chinese sites. It simply carries no Han glyphs.
