Zhi Mang Xing
Zhi Mang Xing
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
The running-script sibling that launched alongside Ma Shan Zheng on Google Fonts, from calligrapher Liu Zhimang. Strokes chain with visible threads and carried breath - faster, more wuxia - built for martial-arts games, guofeng branding, tea and baijiu. Same OFL, same CDN, same ~7k glyphs, same usage boundary as its cousin calligraphy: a one-line soul, never a reading face.
Pick between the two calligraphy faces in one line: Ma Shan Zheng stamps, Zhi Mang Xing signs. Running-script threads also cost legibility in fast-cut subtitles - fade per phrase or enlarge. Both cover roughly 7k common characters plus basic Latin; verify rare names first.
Engineering addendum: served as a full CJK subset on Google Fonts, but running-script threads survive woff2 compression slightly worse than kai - pair web use with 28 px+ and geometricPrecision. Faux-bold destroys the dry-brush texture, so don't. One scenario to avoid: embedding it in editable templates shipped out, since recipients inherit the file - keep OFL.txt with any such bundle.
Where it works best
Wuxia game titles, film names, baijiu copy, collab packaging. Rules: muddles under 28 px; some glyphs follow simplified cursive forms - proof Traditional Chinese copy.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1, identical to Ma Shan Zheng: free commercial, embedding, modification; no reserved-name abuse, no standalone sales.
Hard restrictions
- No reserved name in derivatives.
- No standalone sales.
