Alibaba PuHuiTi 3.0
Alibaba Sans
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
Announced at Alibaba's UCAN conference in April 2019, PuHuiTi was the first full-scenario, permanently free commercial font family released by a Chinese enterprise - its name literally means 'inclusive'. Version 3.0 is its definitive release: compliant with all three implementation levels of the GB18030-2022 national standard, covering roughly 87,000 characters so rare surnames and place names render properly, with nine weights plus a variable build, and a 178-language Latin companion, Alibaba Sans. The design is a neutral modern grotesque: slightly wide face, centred gravity, crisp terminals with micro-rounding - quiet in long text, dependable at display sizes. Tens of millions of downloads make it one of the most-used free commercial fonts in Chinese e-commerce and advertising.
Where it works best
Its home turf is commerce and media: marketplace graphics, livestream overlays, promo posters, packaging and storefront signage are all covered free. Websites and apps can drive UI type scales from the variable file; government forms and publications benefit from its rare-character coverage. Picks: 55 Regular for UI text, 85 Bold and up for sale banners, 95 ExtraBold for formal moments, with Alibaba Sans for Latin and numerals. Download through Alibaba's official font platform or the iconfont font store and archive a dated screenshot of the licence page. It is a sans-only family - pair it with Source Han Serif when you need serifs.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:Alibaba Free Commercial Licence
Alibaba's unilateral declaration: free perpetual global commercial use for individuals and firms - ads, packaging, film, e-commerce, app embedding and trademarks. Restrictions protect the files: no tampering, reverse-engineering, notice removal or standalone sale; download only from official channels. Corporate policy, so re-verify for long-lived high-value assets.
The grant is Alibaba's own font-use declaration rather than a standard open-source licence. In short: any individual or enterprise may download and use the fonts free of charge for all commercial purposes - advertising, packaging, film, e-commerce, app embedding, trademark registration - permanently and without registration. The restrictions protect the font files themselves: no reverse engineering, format conversion or source extraction; no removal of copyright notices; no selling, renting or transferring the font files standalone; downloads must come from official channels to guarantee integrity. Since 2023 Alibaba has clarified that trademark use is allowed. Because this is a unilateral corporate declaration, high-stakes projects should still re-verify current terms on the official site.
Hard restrictions
- Obtain files only from official channels; third-party copies risk tampering or counterfeits.
- No reverse-engineering, format conversion or source extraction.
- No standalone sale, rental or transfer of the font files.
Commercial-use FAQ
Can a logo set in PuHuiTi be registered as a trademark?
Yes - Alibaba has publicly clarified that trademark registration with PuHuiTi letterforms is permitted, though you gain no exclusive rights over the font itself; the mark protects the overall design combination.
