About this font

Chill Movable Type (ChillHuoFangSong) is Warren2060's 2025 open rework of ZhuQueFangSong paired with Simonetta, reviving the look of metal-type fangsong: thin, sharply-cut strokes with squared terminals and crisp joins, a face pregnant with printer's ink. The author adapted fresh Latin forms from Simonetta and built a complete Chinese-punctuation system, making mixed-script and punctuation handling far smoother than the originals. Simplified-Chinese coverage is the focus, so verify glyph coverage before full-scale jobs. Under the SIL OFL 1.1 it is free for ads, packaging, subtitles, marks, embedded apps and the web, with modifications redistributed under OFL and reserved names dropped. Sources and releases live in the Warren2060/ChillMovableType repo; Maoken hosts a download page too. Fit for retro print features, old signage, mock official documents, Republic-era covers and period subtitles.

Where it works best

Retro print features, official-document styling, old signage, Republic-era posters, period subtitles and certificate artwork. Prefer medium-plus sizes; the rebuilt punctuation handles mixed inline text; spot-check glyph coverage before full-scale use.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1. Free for every common commercial use (ads, packaging, film, marks, embedded apps, web). Modifications and redistribution must stay under OFL, include the licence text and use a new name (reserved names dropped).

Hard restrictions

  • Derivatives must stay OFL and drop reserved names.
  • No standalone sale of the font files.
  • Simplified-first, not full GB18030 - verify coverage for large jobs.
