About this font

Cormorant Garamond is the most Garamond-faithful cut in Christian Thalmann's (Catharsis Fonts) celebrated Cormorant family: high-contrast thins and thicks, slender serifs, refined italics - a nod to antique copper-plate printing. Versus sibling cuts it tones down the ornament and sits more comfortably in long-form reading: easy on the eyes, upright in tone. Five weights plus italics on Google Fonts make it the budget stand-in for an engraved Garamond. OFL, ideal for literary publishing, fashion editorial, luxury branding and academic setting that wants heritage and elegance.

Where it works best

For book and magazine body, academic papers, fashion and beauty brand voices, invitations and menus, law-firm and boutique stationery. Keep 400/500 with generous line-height for text; headline with 600/700 and italics for impact.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1: free commercial use, embeddable, modifiable with reserved-name rules; no standalone sale.

Hard restrictions

  • No standalone sale.
