DM Serif Display - high-contrast serif

The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.

About this font

DM Serif Display is the high-contrast serif display from Jonny Pinhorn's Diemon Studio, sibling to DM Sans (2018) for a classic 'sans body + serif headline' pairing. Hairline strokes, heavy broads, abrupt transition serifs - it magnifies the theatricality of old-style print letterforms; every capital feels like a relic of engraving. Two styles (regular + italic) built for display only, so use it big: 32px+ headlines, pull-quotes, fashion/art/lifestyle covers. It sits quietly beside Chinese thin-Ming or hei.

Where it works best

For fashion/art/lifestyle covers, brand-story pages, poster headlines, pull quotes, menu covers. Start at 36px+, use the italic for elegance; leave body text to a sans for contrast.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1. Free commercial use everywhere, embeddable; derivatives drop the name.

Hard restrictions

  • Derivatives drop the name
  • No standalone sales
