Zilla Slab
Mozilla's own slab serif family
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
Zilla Slab is the slab-serif cut of Mozilla's Zilla brand family, designed by Prague foundry Typotheque and open-sourced in 2017 - a rare big-tech brand face that is fully open. Old-style figures, chunky slabs, confident mechanical character; it fronts mozilla.org, Firefox copy and dev-conference material. Eight styles (300-700 with italics) shine in headlines and hold up in body copy. Open license lets any brand borrow its developer/editorial energy; it pairs with both Chinese hei and song.
Where it works best
Best for tech/dev brand sites, open-source docs, editorial covers, event KVs. Display at 700, body 400/500; great on dark backgrounds. A dependable tech tone beside Chinese hei.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1. Free commercial use everywhere, embeddable; derivatives drop the name.
Hard restrictions
- Derivatives drop the name
- No standalone sales
