The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.

About this font

Anton by British designer Vernon Adams (2011) is the web's most recognisable extra-condensed display sans: every letter compressed tall, strokes uniformly heavy, built purely for scale. Past 100px it keeps its punch and modern edge on posters, neon-style and sporty designs. A single, deliberate weight - cut for own manifesto, used in film titles, event KVs, sports posters, thumbnails and album art. Pair with strong Chinese display hei and mind the stroke-weight clash.

Where it works best

For poster headlines, intros, event key visuals, sports brands, sales banners, covers. Use as a display-only face at large sizes; set long titles in all caps for punch. Watch the intensity when paired with heavy Chinese titles.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1. Free commercial use everywhere, embeddable; derivatives drop the name.

Hard restrictions

  • Derivatives drop the name
  • No standalone sales
