The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.

About this font

Dela's retro mega-gothic: squashed, ultra-wide, even strokes with round-cut ends - Showa street signage and old circus posters translated for now, Latin letters following the same wide grammar. One enormous weight, on Google Fonts for instant web use. For East-Asian campaign key visuals, streetwear slogans and cover type it is the 'past at first glance, future at second' choice. Kana, common kanji and Latin covered; rare hanzi not guaranteed.

The flat width is authored, not squashed - strokes and counters were checked against 1970s hand-painted sign rhythms. Its super-wide face eats long copy: four-character bursts, onomatopoeia and English words are its lane; one weight keeps Google Fonts URLs trivial.

Advanced move: its ultra-wide bodies want -2% to -4 % tracking so stroke ends interlock for full retro punch; for vertical slogans rotate the container, not each glyph, since no official vertical cut exists. Pair it with a workhorse sans (Work Sans, Manrope) for poster-plus-landing combos - loud and quiet balance each other; repo and Google Fonts ship the same OFL build.

Where it works best

Campaign KV, festival and exhibition posters, loud food labels. Picks: above 80 px, track -3 %, short bursts.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

Standard OFL 1.1 duties.

Hard restrictions

  • Rename derivatives.
  • No standalone sales.
