Iansui

Iansui is But Ko's (ButTaiwan / zi-hi) re-imagining of Fontworks' Klee One as a relaxed Chinese handwriting face. First issued with the zi-hi community in 2020, it reached 1.000 in June 2023 and has been refined through v1.020 (May 2025). Building on Klee's soft brush flavour, Iansui loosens the drawing into casual, slightly imperfect strokes - earnest yet unhurried, like a careful paragraph of personal notes. It sets simplified and traditional common characters, punctuation and everyday symbols, and shines in headings, short quotes, sticky-note and journal layouts, bubble-tea and stationery branding, and editorial accents. Under SIL OFL 1.1 it is free for ads, packaging, film, marks, embedded apps and the web, and may be modified and redistributed with derivatives under OFL and reserved names dropped. Because the look is deliberately uneven, use it for short statements and spotlines rather than long body copy or dense tables; proof target text before commitment.

Journals and stationery, lifestyle magazines, botanical packaging, short-video captions, greeting cards, bubble-tea menu accents. One informal weight - best at medium-to-large short lines; common simplified and traditional glyphs are covered, rare ones need testing; pair with a clean sans Latin for balance.

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1. Free for ads, packaging, film, marks, embedded apps and the web; embed in software and documents with no fee or credit (attribution welcome). Derivatives must stay under OFL and drop the reserved 'Iansui' name.
