M PLUS Rounded 1c
The rounded member of the M+ family
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
M PLUS Rounded 1c is the rounded branch of the Japanese M+ open family: the reliable M+ skeleton with every stroke end rounded off, swapping the engineering-cool mood for soft friendliness while keeping M+ legibility and its generous character set covering kana, common kanji, Latin and numerals. A Google-Fonts commuter, it supports variable weights from hairline to black for seamless web tuning. Rounded faces suit kids, F&B, lifestyle brands and anything that wants to feel softer - and it sits quietly beside Chinese sans text. SIL OFL 1.1: free to use, embed and modify.
Where it works best
Best for Japanese UI copy, kids and lifestyle visuals, F&B packaging headings, social and entertainment products, and oversized web headlines. Use 400/500 for interface body, 700/800 for headings, and the variable axis for weight transitions in hover motion. Pair a neutral Chinese sans (Source Han, HarmonyOS Sans) as the body and keep the round face for accent titles.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1. Free for every commercial use; embeddable, webfont-safe, modifiable and redistributable. Derivatives stay OFL without the reserved MPlus names, carry the licence text, and are never sold standalone.
Hard restrictions
- Derivatives stay OFL and drop the MPlus reserved names.
- No standalone sales.
- Mainly kana and common kanji; simplified/traditional coverage is limited.
