Sora
Sora - a modern geometric sans born for a crypto project
Type specimen
The specimen uses the official Google Fonts subset when available, otherwise a font installed on this device. If neither exists the browser falls back to a system font, so treat the official download page as authoritative.
About this font
Sora (2019) is the collaboration between legendary graphic designer Jonathan Barnbrook and Julián Moncada, built for the Soramitsu decentralised-finance project and released open on Google Fonts. Barnbrook's sharpness meets engineering logic: angular cuts, regimatic circular o/a/e, and precision order warmed by subtle stroke contrast. Eight weights Thin-to-ExtraBold plus a variable axis suit fintech, blockchain, developer tools and data-viz wanting future-plus-trust. A frequent pick in Google Fonts' most-popular-new listings. SIL OFL 1.1 - free commercial use, embedding and redistribution, no standalone sale.
Where it works best
For fintech and Web3 product UIs, dashboards and data-viz, developer docs, dark-mode interfaces, hardware and device branding, minimal posters. ExtraBold owns display with sharp cuts; 400 does body; pairs with JetBrains Mono for code and numerals; reads well on dark.

Licence and commercial boundaries
Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1
The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.
SIL OFL 1.1: free commercial use, embeddable, modifiable under OFL with reserved-name rules; no standalone sale. Upstream at sora-xor/sora-font.
Hard restrictions
- Geometric-cold; humanist brands may prefer Rubik.
- Derivatives must carry OFL 1.1.
- No standalone sale.
