About this font

Dream Han Serif is the companion serif to Dream Han Sans - Pal3love's rework of the open Source Han Serif engineering that unifies Simplified, Traditional, Japanese and Korean forms in one face and adds full GB18030 coverage. It keeps the classic serif flavour: contrasting horizontal strokes, pronounced entry serifs, and a formal, literary body feel ideal for annual reports, manuals and long-form legal text. Same DNA and matching weights as Dream Han Sans, so the two families mix perfectly in bilingual systems. Also offered in proportional and monospaced metrics. SIL OFL 1.1: free commercial use, modification and redistribution; just watch the weight on the web.

Where it works best

Best for truly multilingual long-form layout - one edition across TW/JP/KR/CN - annual reports, yearbooks and dictionaries, and serif-led brand type paired with its sans sibling. Use 400/500 for body, lighter weights for marathon reading, Bold-plus titles, and the mono metrics for tables. Functionally a standard open serif, uniquely with four-script coverage.

Licence and commercial boundaries

Licence:SIL Open Font License 1.1

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1, free for all commercial use, modifiable and redistributable, provided derivatives stay OFL without reserved names, carry the licence text, and are never sold separately.

Hard restrictions

  • Derivatives stay OFL and drop reserved names.
  • No standalone sale.
  • Full coverage is heavy - subset by weight on the web.

Commercial-use FAQ

Is Dream Han Serif fine for official document templates?

Yes. It is OFL, free for commercial use and embedding, with unified coverage - great for organisation-wide templates. When distributing to third parties, keep the licence text and mind the file size of the full set.
