Shippori Mincho

Shippori Mincho is an open Japanese mincho (serif) inspired by traditional handmade washi paper, designed to bring warmth, craft and a sense of time into typesetting. It keeps the classic mincho entry serifs and endings but feels more relaxed and hand-made than textbook Song faces. It covers kana, common kanji and Latin, and Google Fonts serves multiple static weights plus a variable version - body to headlines. A characterful serif for café menus, lifestyle mags, craft and food brands, and anything Japanese that wants to feel warm and unhurried. It sits well beside traditional Chinese serifs. Licensed under SIL OFL 1.1 - free use, embedding, modification and redistribution.

Best for Japanese cafés, craft and food brands, lifestyle magazines and books, invitations and menus, and any Japanese key visual that wants a literary air. Use 400/500 for body, 700/800 for headings, and the variable axis to fine-tune hierarchy. When mixing Chinese, pair a Song/serif on the Chinese side for a coherent tone.
