Glow Sans

Glow Sans (ヒカリ角ゴ) is Project Wêlai's 2020 parametric gothic layered over Source Han Sans with Fira Sans / Raleway geometry: a smaller counter and face, flattened simplified strokes and rebalanced centres render it lighter and airier than Source Han. The seven Source Han weights become nine (ExtraLight to Heavy), five width families from compressed to wide produce 44 faces, each with complete SC, TC and J regional variants. Coverage is ~100% for GB 2312, the general-use Han table and GBK, ~99.9% for GB 18030. The fonts are SIL OFL 1.1; build code is separately MIT - free for any commercial use.

Best for brand headlines, packaging, posters and campaign visuals, editorial display, and Chinese copy inside multilingual UIs. Use Heavy weights at display sizes with generous tracking; at small body sizes prefer a more seasoned gothic or Source Han so thin weights don't shimmer. The width series shines in grid-based layouts.

The dominant permissive licence for open fonts: free commercial use, modification, embedding and redistribution. Its core duties are that derivatives stay under OFL without the Reserved Font Name, the licence text travels with the files, and the fonts themselves are never sold standalone. Works typeset with them belong wholly to you.

SIL OFL 1.1: free to use and sell alongside your work, redistribute, embed and modify, with no payment or attribution required. Derivatives must stay OFL and drop any reserved names; the font file itself may not be sold standalone.
